MSc in Physics

The learning objectives of the MSc in Physics are the acquisition of a thorough cultural training in the fields of Classical and Modern Physics. The program aims at providing a deep knowledge on modern physical measurement methods and data analysis with full understanding of the physics-related mathematical and information technology methods and a good mastery of the Scientific Method.

The MSc in Physics offers 9 curricula:

Astrophysics                                                          Physics Education                                Electronics                   

Biomedical Physics                                               Physics of Matter                                  Nuclear Physics

Subnuclear physics and astroparticles               Theoretical Physics                              Geophysics


The variety of curricula is aimed at providing skills in the widespread Research Programmes in Physics active at our Department and in our University and benefits from the strong scientific collaborations and exchange programs with public research entities (CNR, INAF, INFN, INGV, etc.) and other universities, which allows studying in a pleasant and stimulating environment with a strong international focus.

The minimum entrance criteria for MSc in Physics require an advanced understanding of Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics as well as a good proficiency in technical English. The enrolment is subject to a preliminary evaluation of the applicant's curriculum studiorum.

The MSc in Physics graduate can find profitable opportunities in career fields requiring good knowledge of the Scientific Method and high-level scientific and technical competences. Examples are:

  • scientific and technological innovation; 
  • public research entities and private companies characterized by high scientific, technical and cultural competences related to the sectors of industry, environment, healthcare, cultural heritage, public law enforcement bodies and administration, etc.;
  • education and public understanding of science; 
  • admission to the exam for the national qualification in Physicist Profession (Public Register of Chemists and Physicists) and consultant activities for unregulated professions under the Italian Law 4/2013.




Class Schedule

The lessons of the second semester of the academic year 2023-2024 start on March 4th, 2024.

All the students are invited to refer to the web page of each lecturer for further details.

The class schedule timetable can be subject to changes, namely in the first part of the semester to fix any relevant issue. Those who would like to report any general issue regarding the class schedule is invited to contact the responsible person Prof. Emiliano Di Gennaro. 

Requests of general interest will be mainly considered.

Typically, the class of the MSc in Physics will be carried out in the department teaching rooms 0M01-M05. Some classes will be allocated in the lecture rooms building A of the Monte S. Angel Campus. In such a case, this information is reported in the class schedule timetable as a note.
