Abstract

Quantum computers promise to revolutionize basic science and industrial research thanks to a completely different approach to computation. This will have a tremendous impact on several fields such as chemical-pharmaceutical industry, process optimization, cryptography and cyber-security, physics, material science, biology, and many others. Nowadays, the study of the functionalities of a quantum computer and its implementation are no longer just a prerogative of basic research laboratories. The entry of important players such as Google, IBM, Amazon, Microsoft, etc. brought about a turning point: a greater awareness of the real feasibility of quantum applications. Despite the great progress made in the last years, the realization of a quantum computer remains an enormous engineering challenge. It is within this scenario that Seeqc operates with a different approach to the quantum computing challenge.

Seeqc main objective is to develop and deliver the first digital quantum computing platform. Digital quantum computing combines classical and quantum technology, forming an all-digital architecture to address the efficiency, stability and cost issues that often plague quantum computing systems using CMOS-based analog, microwave control infrastructure. By integrating superconducting qubit chips, proprietary Single Flux Quantum (SFQ) application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) and SFQ-based 10-40 GHz superconducting classical co-processors, Seeqc can deliver a new level of cost-effectiveness and enable new functionalities in quantum computing. In terms of scalability, the company is eliminating many of the challenges of building quantum computers with thousands or even millions of qubits. Other industry approaches to quantum computing involve unwieldy systems requiring numerous, costly coaxial cables and complex CMOS readout/control for each qubit. These systems cannot scale effectively to meet the needs of concrete applications. In addition to reducing system complexity, latency and cost, Seeqc's unique expertise in SFQ for circuit design and manufacture enables the company to engineer systems that operate at about four orders of magnitude lower energy compared to equivalent CMOS-based systems. Seeqc's quantum system provides the energy- and cost-efficiency, speed and digital control required to make quantum computing useful and bring the first commercially-scalable, problem-specific quantum computing applications to market.

In this talk we will present our unique innovative solution and the path towards the first digital quantum computing platform, report on the recent technological advances made and walk the audience through the company roadmap for the upcoming years.
