Manhattan project astrophysics

We are confident that the entire Department will participate to the next Physics Colloquium that will take place on March 18th, at 4pm in Aula Caianiello.
Our speaker will be Michael Wiescher (University of Notre Dame), whom will tell us about "Manhattan project astrophysics" https://indico.unina.it/e/Colloquio07
The Colloquium will be preceded by a small refreshment, and followed by a session "with the speaker" for students only. We kindly ask the interested students to register in the dedicated area at the webpage https://www.docenti.unina.it/gabriellamaria.deluca .
Title: "Manhattan project astrophysics"
Abstract: This talk will provide a historical analysis of the impact of academic nuclear physics in the 1930s on the US Manhattan Project from 1942 to 1945 and how it influenced the nuclear test program 1945-1970. I will also discuss the subsequent impact of the Manhattan Project towards the emergence of the Big Bang theory and the development of the field of Nuclear Astrophysics.
