"Instrumental flight control in Airborne Wind Energy (AWE)"

Speaker: Dr. Piyush Jadhav,

got his Master degree in Technology at the Indian Institute of Technology in Madras (India). During his thesis work, he spent a long period of time studying and working on the problem of instrumental control of a flying kite at the KiteGen venue, in Turin. I met him during his stage in Turin and after his thesis defence, he got a 1-year grant, in the frame of a scientific collaboration among the Department of Physics of the University of Naples Federico II and KiteGen Srl, for following his studies on the flight control. During the talk, Piyush will present a summary of the results he achieved in the last year.

Abstract

Globally acknowledged, Airborne Wind Energy (AWE) is a vital form of tropospheric wind energy having a potential to serve, in the primary form, to the ever-growing energy demands.

There are multiple companies working on parallel technologies, competing to harness AWE. KiteGen Research s.r.l. is one of the first to develop the proof of concept of AWE working on the rigid power wing based technology.

As a part of my research activity with University of Naples Federico II, I will be delivering a talk on the recent developments of the work at KiteGen Research. The seminar will cover an overview of AWE and will mainly focus on the 'Instrumental flight control' using a robotic haptic interface.
